Le Monde Afriqueabout album.
à propos album.
In the late 1980s, a revolutionary sound was born in the Indian Ocean.
After the raw, foundational recordings that introduced seggae to Mauritius, KAYA continued shaping a new musical language rooted in the island’s traditional sega, reggae, Rastafari consciousness and Mauritian Creole expression.
SEGGAE MAN, originally released in 1992, is KAYA’s second official album. Backed by Racinetatane, it brings seggae into a more polished studio form while keeping the spirit, rhythm and social force that made the music so deeply Mauritian.
The album carries eight songs, sung mainly in Mauritian Creole, with two English-language tracks — “Sun Love” and “Spirit Seggae Musik” — reflecting the wider international influences behind the sound.
Restored for KAYA DAY 2025 and presented by BABANI x KRÉOL ART, this digital reissue makes the album available again in high quality while preparing the ground for its future vinyl edition.
This is not a subgenre.
This is Seggae.

KAYA shaped seggae as a Mauritian language of rhythm, identity and resistance. The album sits at the heart of that movement: rooted in sega, carried by reggae, and sung from Mauritius to the world.
what is seggae?
c’est quoi seggae?
Seggae is a Mauritian sound born from the meeting of sega and reggae.
Sega is the traditional music and dance of Mauritius and the Mascarene islands — a rhythmic, Creole expression rooted in island memory, movement, percussion and everyday life. Reggae brought another pulse: bass, skank, Rastafari consciousness, social resistance and spiritual force.
Through KAYA, these two worlds became something new. Seggae carried the rhythm of Mauritius, the voice of Creole identity, the social message of roots music and the spiritual energy of a generation searching for its own sound.
On SEGGAE MAN, this language takes full shape: sega memory, reggae pulse, Creole lyrics, island spirituality and the unmistakable voice of KAYA.
